World Human Rights Cities Forum
Since its inception in 2011, this international forum has been held annually in Gwangju to realize the vision of a human rights city. Through the World Human Rights Cities Forum (WHRCF), Gwangju perpetuates the spirit of the democracy movement and community spirit of the citizens of Gwangju, who resisted injustice in the face of brutal state violence in May 1980 and banded together until the end. Through the WHRCF, Gwangju focuses on the value of human rights together with the citizens of the world. Currently, the WHRCF is developing into a human rights network in which domestic and foreign human rights city officials, human rights organizations, human rights activists, administrators, and citizens participate. It is establishing itself as a representative event for human rights exchange in the international community that leads to joint cooperation by consolidating the efforts of human rights cities to effectively protect and institutionalize the human rights of citizens in their daily lives.
